Lurie Children’s Adds Intensive and Neonatal Care Beds to Counter State Reduction in Pediatric Care
Lurie Children’s Hospital recently gained state approval to add 44 intensive care unit beds and four neonatal intensive care unit beds. In its application to add those beds, Lurie cited reductions in pediatric beds at 15 other facilities since 2013 as part of the reason it needed to expand. Seven of those facilities got rid of all their pediatric beds, according to the application.
In all, Lurie’s market has lost 140 pediatric beds since 2013, the hospital said.
