Ron is finally in!
Cubs icon Ron Santo was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame. The nine-time All-Star third baseman, hit 342 home runs and won five Gold Gloves throughout his baseball career. A Cubs broadcaster for two decades, Santo was the Cubs biggest fan.
However, the election is bittersweet, as Santo passed away a year ago after battling diabetes throughout his life.
As Cubs CEO Tom Ricketts stated, “Last year, when we lost Ronnie, I said he was the beating heart of Cubs fans. Today, that heart of our fans is enshrined in Cooperstown where he belongs.”
Santo is 46th person with a Cubs association to be elected to Baseball’s Hall of Fame.
