Prudent policies pay off, DuPage County officials say as they review the current spending year halfway to the next budget.
Fred Backfield, chief financial officer, this week provided the County Board with a mid-year update on the activity in the General Fund, which represents most of the county’s spending. The bottom line: consumer spending is helping keep revenues near where they need to be, and a steady income flow will need to continue so benefit payments can keep flowing as well.

Though its move is more than a year away, Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago has launched a $3 million branding campaign to tout its coming new name and relocation to the Streeterville neighborhood.
The campaign, which features “amazed” young patients asking about the move, is designed to focus on its new name, the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, and its location to a new facility at 225 E. Chicago Ave., just east of Michigan Avenue from Lincoln Park, where it has been since 1882.

Navistar, a manufacturer and marketer of medium and heavy trucks, has named Al Saltiel as the new chief marketing officer.
In his new role Saltiel will manage the company’s marketing resources and will have worldwide responsibility for driving its expanding portfolio of brands.
