“The plaza outside Wrigley Field will open for business on the morning of the Chicago Cubs‘ April 10 home opener, and the team’s owners gave a look at the initial tenants — including a new flagship Cubs store and restaurant — on Wednesday.
The Park at Wrigley, part of the Ricketts family’s redevelopment of the ballpark and surrounding area, fills a triangular spot adjacent to the ballpark between Clark Street and Waveland Avenue.
It’s meant to be a “town square” outside the ballpark, Hickory Street Capital, a real estate development company owned by the Ricketts family, said in a news release Wednesday. But tenants also will be looking to make the most of the Cubs’ popularity after the team’s historic championship 2016 season.”
“Movie nights, farmers markets, music programs, and a beer and wine tasting are on deck for the inaugural summer of events at the new plaza being built outside Wrigley Field.
The Park at Wrigley, developed by a venture of the Cubs-owning Ricketts family, will officially open April 10 (that’s the Cubs’ home opener) and host its first community event in mid-May, the family announced today.”
“When Rizzo, Bryant and Schwarber aren’t at Wrigley Field this summer, kohlrabi, kale and corn will be.
On non-game-day Thursdays, Green City Market will operate a farmers market in The Park at Wrigley, the new, open-air entertainment space that will debut April 10 at 3637 N. Clark St., adjacent to Wrigley Field.”
“The area, which stands on the west side of the stadium, will only be open to ticket holders on game days, but it will also be open on non-game days as well.
For area residents, the plaza will mean more than just shops and restaurants. Beginning on June 15, Green City Market will begin operating a farmer’s market on a weekly basis at the plaza during weeks when the Cubs don’t have Thursday games.”
“The Wrigley Field plaza will be ready for Opening Day.
The owners of the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday released details on the first summer events to be held on the triangle-shaped plaza just north of Clark and Addison streets that will be known as The Park at Wrigley Field.
After a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Cubs home opener April 10, the plaza will have pregame festivities. A new website with details on plaza events also launched Wednesday.”
