Sharon van Zwieten

Sharon van Zwieten is global communications executive, with more than 30 years of broadcast journalism experience. Sharon’s additional roles in marketing, public relations and corporate communications give her the unique perspective and insight of someone who understands every facet of our business.

As a Senior Executive Producer at CNN, ESPN and Univision Deportes, Sharon launched and re-imagined networks, driving best-in-class journalists through breaking news, long-form and investigative work. Her straightforward approach combined with her ability to take and manage risk earned her positions in Hong Kong and Singapore. At ABC News, her team pioneered a news streaming service ahead of its time, and at CBS her depth and speed helped the newsroom stay on top of the biggest stories of the day. As a show runner at CNBC, Sharon innovated programming for the network’s first efforts at entertainment programming in 1997, creating and producing “dot.com,” to help C-Suite executives understand the power of the internet.

In the newsroom and control room, Sharon guided teams through coverage of 9/11, two Iraq wars, and countless episodes of breaking news, natural disasters, and political events. Outside of the broadcast world, Sharon’s print work has been published in The Economist, The South China Morning Post, and The (Chicago) Reader. Earlier in her career, she produced marketing materials, videos and collateral that helped a major investment company raise $500 million. She also consults a portfolio of enterprises on their digital communications and social media strategies.

Sharon’s cross-cultural skills took on another dimension in the classroom, where she lectured graduate students at Columbia University in the City of New York in Strategic Communications.

She holds a BA from the University of Michigan, a Masters of Journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and her Masters of Business of Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
