Construction starts on next phase of Metra station project

Construction began Friday on the next phase of improvements at the Naperville Metra station just north of downtown.

This phase of the project includes the demolition and reconstruction of the northeast portion of the platform. Portions of the platform closed during the first phase, including the stairways to Washington Street, are now open.

When state law last week gave new authority over local taxing bodies to the boards that govern DuPage and other large Illinois counties, it marked a victory for first-term DuPage County Chairman Dan Cronin.

After putting in nearly 18 years in the state Senate, the Elmhurst Republican’s ties to Springfield helped him log the legislative milestone barely a half-year into his new position at the top post in DuPage County.
