DuPage slices benefits to save money

A new approach to employee time-off benefits could save DuPage County as much as $28 million over the next two decades, officials said.
County board members on Tuesday approved a plan that reduces the number of sick, personal or vacation days employees can accrue annually.
Board member Jeff Redick said the policy modifications “reflect the best practices of public and private entities.”

GLENDALE, AZ – A West Valley clinic is offering low-cost dental check-ups for kids in time for them to go back to school.
Midwestern University trains its future dentists by allowing them to practice on both adults and children under the supervision of experienced doctors.
“We’re here just basically to help the students make sure that the young ones get their back to school check ups,” said Dr. Kimberly Patterson, a pediatric dentist, who is teaches at the school.
While it’s not free, the clinic charges patients half of what they would pay at a private practice.

When the Cubs honored Ron Santo before a spring training game in March, the players were given special hats with the number 10 on them to commemorate the day.
Now that the Wrigley Field ceremony has arrived, with a statue dedication scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday outside the right-field gate, some players would like to bring back the caps for the day.
