Q: Why are they doing so well?

A: Because of a combination of borderline brilliant decisions by Theo Epstein, the president of baseball operations, and Tom Ricketts, the owner. They did something in the offseason that really was a violation of the protocols of baseball. They fired a manager who had done a perfectly good job, Rick Renteria. And they fired him only because the best manager in all of baseball became available. And that’s Joe Maddon.
