The Fillers are hoping to address shortcomings in treatment options with a $1 million gift to the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. The donation from the Jordan Michael Filler Foundation will be used to create the region’s first substance abuse program for teens and youth embedded within a medical setting, according to the hospital.
“We tried absolutely everything, and Jordan would say the model they’re using doesn’t work with me,” Julie Filler of Highland Park recalled. “He’d say, ‘You can put me in a box and I’m clean, and the minute I come home I am going to be in trouble.'”
