Chicago Tribune’s architectural critic, Blair Kamin, wrote a preview of several not-to-miss architectural projects this fall, including Zurich’s new North American headquarters in Schaumburg:
“A stake in suburbia: Defying the trend of companies moving offices from the suburbs to downtown, Swiss global insurer Zurich will open an eye-grabbing North American headquarters along Interstate Highway 90 in Schaumburg.
Designed by Chicago’s Goettsch Partners, the 11-story building consists of three long, glass-sheathed parts that the architects call “bars.” The longest one is stacked atop the other two and cantilevers outward. It’s a radical departure from the stable imagery insurance companies typically favor. A ribbon-cutting is scheduled for Sept. 28.”
