“Plans are moving forward to redevelop what has long been an eyesore in west suburban Aurora.

For several years, buildings on the old Copley Hospital campus near Lincoln and Weston have just sat there.

It was a major blight on the community, between the overgrown weeds and the asbestos, broken windows, all the vandalism,” Michael Poulakidas of Fox Valley Developers LLC tells WBBM Newsradio.

The asbestos and lead has been removed, and the site is ready for redevelopment as a mixed-use campus that would be known as Avalon Heights. The project would include senior residences and a pharmacy.

The plan would also put the future home of School District 131 on the campus.

Poulakidas said developers hope to present their plan to the Aurora City Council by late October or early November.”
