“Those who avoid the media run a risk, says Dennis Culloton, who runs his own firm but in a previous life spoke for Richard M. Daley’s Department of Aviation and Gov. George Ryan. Even at the height of his legal woes, Ryan “was able to get his message out on issues like the budget and, most famously, capital punishment,” Culloton says. “Without talking to the media, that issue would have remained confined to law school classrooms and courtrooms.”
